A Maasai shield with two crossed spears sits at the centre of the flag. Black represents the people, red the bloodshed during the fight for independence, and green the land of the country. The white edges between the bands stand for peace, and the flag was adopted on 12 December 1963 when Kenya became independent.
Colour the black band at the top first, then the red middle, then the green bottom, using long horizontal strokes. The Maasai shield and crossed spears sit in the centre and have fine red and black details, so save that patch for last and use a fine tip.
