A black five-pointed star sits in the centre of the yellow band, the symbol of African emancipation and unity that was taken from the flag of Marcus Garvey’s Black Star Line. Red stands for the blood of those who led the fight for independence, yellow for the mineral wealth of the land, and green for the forests and natural riches. The flag was designed by Theodosia Okoh and adopted on 6 March 1957, the day Ghana became the first sub-Saharan African country to win independence from colonial rule.
Colour the red band at the top first, then the yellow middle, then the green bottom, using long horizontal strokes and leaving the centre for the black star. The star sits in the middle of the yellow band and is the only detail, so finish it with a fine tip.
