A golden pentagram sits on a blue disc at the centre of the flag. On 11 October 1897, a year after Ethiopia decisively defeated the Kingdom of Italy at the Battle of Adwa, emperor Menelik II ordered the three pennants of red, yellow and green combined into a single rectangular tricolour. When nations across Africa won their independence decades later, many adopted these colours in tribute, and they are now known as the Pan-African colours.
Colour the green band at the top first, then the yellow middle, then the red bottom using long horizontal strokes. The blue disc with the golden star sits in the centre, so save that part for last and use a fine tip for the rays of the star.
