In the centre the resplendent quetzal, the national bird, stands as a sign of liberty, resting above a scroll with the date 15 September 1821, when Central America began its independence from Spain. The two sky blue stripes around it stand for strength, justice, truth and loyalty, and the white stripe for purity, integrity, firmness and light. The emblem also holds crossed rifles to show the country will defend itself by force if it has to, with swords for honour and a bay laurel crown for victory.
Colour the two outer blue bands with top-to-bottom strokes and leave the middle band white. The quetzal, the rifles and the scroll in the centre are small and close together, so slow down and use a fine point for that part.
