The flag became the official national standard on 27 August 1971, though the blue-and-white design had first been adopted in 1908. Inside the coat of arms at the centre, five volcanoes stand for the five original member states of Central America and a rainbow arches as the sign of peace. The blue and white bands come from the old flag of the Federal Republic of Central America.
Colour the top and bottom blue bands first with long horizontal strokes and leave the white centre empty. The coat of arms in the middle has a rainbow and five small volcanoes, so use a fine tip for that patch and keep the colours of the rainbow in order.
