Called the Dannebrog, it holds the world record as the oldest continuously used national flag, recognised by royal order in 1625. A white cross stretches to all four edges on a red field, with the vertical arm shifted closer to the hoist. In legend the flag fell from the sky during the Battle of Lyndanisse in Estonia on 15 June 1219, turning the tide for the Danish king.
Colour the red field first with broad strokes, then add the white cross that runs from edge to edge. The vertical arm sits left of centre, so mark that position before you start, and then run both arms of the cross with long even strokes.
