A red and blue circle called the taegeuk sits at the centre of a white field, surrounded by four black trigrams in the corners. The taegeuk represents the balance of opposites — red for the positive, blue for the negative — and the four trigrams stand for heaven, earth, fire and water. and the flag was adopted by the Constituent National Assembly on 12 July 1948.
Leave the white field empty and focus on the centre and corners. Colour the red upper half and blue lower half of the taegeuk first, then add the four black trigrams in the corners with a fine tip — each is a set of three bars, some broken and some solid.
