A golden bird of paradise soars in the red triangle at the top, while five white stars of the Southern Cross sit in the black triangle below. The design was drawn by Susan Karike, a fifteen-year-old schoolgirl who won a nationwide competition in 1971. Red and black are traditional colours of many Papua New Guinean tribes, and the bird of paradise is a symbol of the country’s tribal culture.
Colour the red triangle at the top first, then the black triangle below it, keeping the diagonal edge between them straight. Leave the five white stars empty in the black triangle and colour the golden bird of paradise in the red triangle last with a fine tip.
