The shield of Fiji’s coat of arms fills the centre of the far half of the flag, divided by a red cross with a red band across the top. A coconut palm and a bunch of bananas stand in two of its quarters for the island’s crops, while a white dove holding an olive branch sits in another for peace. A golden lion in the top band and the red cross recall the links with the United Kingdom, and the flag was adopted on 10 October 1970, the day Fiji gained independence.
Colour the light blue field first with broad strokes, then the Union Jack in the top-left corner. Leave the white background of the shield empty and colour only its red cross and red top band, then finish the small plants and animals with a fine tip.
