Three horizontal bands of black, white and green are joined at the hoist by a red triangle carrying a white seven-pointed star. The design is based on the flag of the Arab Revolt of 1916 against the Ottoman Empire, and the seven points of the star refer to the seven verses of the opening chapter of the Quran. The flag was officially adopted on 16 April 1928.
Colour the black band at the top first with long horizontal strokes, then leave the white middle band empty, then colour the green bottom band. The red triangle at the hoist carries the white seven-pointed star, so add the triangle first and finish the star with a fine tip.
