A green cedar of Lebanon fills the centre of the flag, touching both the red bands above and below it. The cedar has been a national symbol for centuries and stands for immortality, resilience and hope. The flag was adopted on 7 December 1943, shortly before Lebanon gained independence from France, and the red bands are commonly read as the blood shed in that struggle while the white stands for peace and the snow-capped mountains.
Colour the red bands at the top and bottom first, leaving the wide white band in the middle empty. Finish with the green cedar in the centre, using a fine tip to keep its branches clear and distinct.
