Three vertical bands of green, white and orange fill the flag, with the green at the hoist standing for Roman Catholics and the orange for Protestants, the followers of William of Orange. The white between them is the hope for a lasting peace and union between the two traditions on the island. The tricolour was raised above the General Post Office in Dublin during the Easter Rising of 1916 and was given constitutional status in 1937.
Work from left to right with vertical strokes, filling the green band at the hoist first, then leave the white band empty, and finish with the orange band at the fly. All three bands are the same width, so keep the edges straight.
