A golden star was added to the centre of the flag in 1975 when Cameroon became a unitary state, and it is called the star of unity. Green stands for the forests of the south, red for the unity of the people, and yellow for the sun and the savannas of the north. The green, red and yellow tricolour had first been adopted on 26 October 1957.
Colour the green band at the hoist first, then the red centre, then the yellow band at the fly, using vertical strokes of equal width. The golden star sits in the middle of the red band, so save that part for last and trace it carefully with a fine tip.
