Blue stands for liberty, red for the blood of the heroes who won Dominican independence, and the white cross for peace and salvation. The cross divides the flag, leaving blue at the hoist and red at the other corner, and the pattern flips on the lower half. The coat of arms at the centre adds the phrase Dios, Patria, Libertad (“God, Country, Liberty”).
The four quarters are blue and red set diagonally opposite each other, divided by a white cross. Colour the quarters first, then trace the white cross last so its edges stay crisp and the blue and red stay separate.
