A red disc sits slightly off centre towards the hoist on a deep green field, so that it appears centred when the flag is flying. The green stands for the lush landscape of Bangladesh, and the red disc represents the rising sun and the blood of those who gave their lives during the Liberation War of 1971. The flag was adopted on 17 January 1972, replacing an earlier version that had carried a yellow map of the country inside the disc.
Colour the green field first with broad even strokes, then add the red disc. The disc is placed slightly left of centre, so mark that point before you draw the circle and fill it with even colour.
