Paraguay's flag is the only one in the world with a different emblem on each side: the obverse carries the national seal, a yellow star inside a green wreath with the words Republica del Paraguay, and the reverse carries the treasury seal, a golden lion beneath a red Phrygian cap with the words Paz y Justicia. The red, white and blue tricolour was inspired by the French flag as a sign of independence and liberty. The flag was first adopted in 1842.
Colour the red top band and the blue bottom band first with long horizontal strokes, leaving the white centre empty around the emblem. The round emblem in the middle is small, with the star and wreath, so finish that part with a fine tip.
