Armenia's flag stands out with its orange band, a colour found on few national flags, set beneath red and blue in three equal horizontal bands. Under the 2006 flag law, the red stands for the Armenian highland and the struggle for survival, the blue for the peaceful skies above, and the orange for the talent and hard‑working nature of the people. The First Republic of Armenia first raised the tricolour on 1 August 1918, and it was readopted by the Supreme Soviet on 24 August 1990.
